The Rocky Hill Ranch 25K Trail Run on April
28 (2001) was a blast. Dinty Moore, Julie Miller and I had
agreed to run it together a couple of months ago. We all registered
at different times. I got bib # 236, Julie got bib #239 and
Dinty got bib #238. Wow, we thought, what an unusual coincidence!
Dinty said "We have to find #237". So before the
race we started looking around for #237. We found him. It
was Sid Lister! We decided to run together and off we went
in the chilly morning. There were serious hills almost immediately.
Much of this bike park's trails are single track so we were
often like a train of 4 cars or a toboggan swooshing through
the woods. It was a really fun course. Lots of whoop-de-dos
(as Dinty called them) through the trees with suddenly appearing
down slopes and up hills. Some of it was quite daunting. I
don't see how those folks on mountain bikes can do it. Lots
of rocky trails, but also some nice soft grass, sand and pine
straw to run on. We had a lot of fun and all finished in order
of our bib #'s! The hills and the terrain definitely slow
you down; we all ran about 11 minute miles over the course.
The aid stations every 5 miles had lots of good stuff, too.
In addition to the coolmax t-shirt for submitting the entry
fee; each finisher got "leied" and got a coolmax
tank top as a prize. I highly recommend this run. I suspect
that Debra Saleny, Ted and Cathy who also all did the 25K
would agree. Lenny W. was the real athlete and did the 50K.
I plan to join him for the double loop (the full 50K) next
year.
