Heroes

(written to Paul Ivory)
Paul,

Thanks for these great stories. I started with a goal of 10 minute pace for a 4:30 completion. But by mile 18, something happen and I just could not get enough energy to run. At mile 18, I was at 3:12. It took 2 hours and 20 minutes to finish the last 8.2. I am trying to find answers why I felt so without energy at the end. These are some of the answers that I have come up with.

Was it the fact that on Friday I fasted as part of my Lent season drinking only liquids no solids? Then on Saturday I had one big Pasta meal and very little Sat. night.

Was it the fact that I had not train for more than 18 miles in preparation for this Marathon?

Was it that my self training of 10 mile weekends with 1 or 2 runs of 6 miles during the week not enough?

Was it the heat?

Was it Mental?

Was it my weight at 195 lbs?

I know it is not my age, because Paul has proven that.

Whatever the answers are, I have decided to train harder this year for next year. With past finishes of 3:43 and 4:01, this 5:20, It should not be a hard challenge to make better.

Again, thanks for calling me a hero. It sure did not feel that way as I came in.
