Hope

Just wanted to give those out there with IT band issues some hope!

During training I had pretty much given up hope for the marathon. I was not able to finish several long runs due to my IT band. For the 15 mile run, I could only go 13 and I was only able to run about 15 miles for the 30K. Two weeks before the marathon, I decided to just see if more walking breaks would help.

So, I got a massage to loosen up my IT band and went into the marathon very conservatively doing a walk every 5 minutes until mile 20/21 when my IT band started to hurt. At that time, I started to walk every 3 minutes and took some ibuprofen. I finished the marathon pain-free and with a smile on my face.

It felt so good to complete the run when I had no dreams of completing it until 2 weeks ago!
