"90 percent of this game is half mental"

My experience was similar to below. At mile 18, my pace slowed significantly for self preservation. I knew when I started getting goose bumps on my left arm that I was overheating and would have to slow the pace to finish. I had high hopes of keeping up with the 4:45 pace group, and did so up until that point. As I made the turn on Lake Austin Blvd, the sun and heat seemed to zap the energy out of me. The 5:00 hour pace group passed by somewhere near Longhorn Dam.

All and all, I am happy for being able to finish what I had started. I completed my first marathon after overcoming injuries and cutting some of my training runs short to recover. The best part was I was able to go the distance pain free thanks to a strap wrapped about 2 inches above my right knee. This helped alleviate the flare ups I had been having with my IT band. Many thanks to Paul Ivory, Donnie O'Neil and the AustinFit coaches for their support and encouragement. Congratulations to all.

My goal next year is to be 20 pounds lighter and finish at 45 minutes faster.
