2005 Quotes and Short Stories

Not much to my story. This was my second marathon ever, last year being my first. I finsished the second half much stronger than last year and ended up dropping 18 minutes off last year's time. I was very pleased and ready to go again for next year :-)

I was ahead of the 4.00 pace group until mile 19, and then saw them slowly moving ahead of me. My time was a 4.13 - 3 min. slower than last years, but I still feel good. This year my quads cramped around the last 4 miles. Was it the heat? Who knows? Our youngest Austin Fit runner (I think she's the youngest), Jocelyn Spataro, finished 4th in her age group doing a 3.57.51. She was going for a 3.45, but I think the heat got her too. She still looked pretty cute when she crossed the finish line! Thanks again for another great year of training, running and sharing :).

I don't want to write a lot about yesterday, I am already trying to repress the memories! In a nutshell, it was a very bad day for me. Legs felt great, but sinus problems and the heat and humidity got the best of me. My chip time was 50 minutes past the goal I set for myself.
Not everything was negative about yesterday. I actually finished, which didn't seem like a sure thing the last half of the race. And for the first time I had no problem visiting the Mile 25 beer stop......nothing like a cold beer while you're bonking!
